The Social Contract

About the course: ‌

The book “Social Contract” by Jean Jacques Rousseau, which is one of the foundational texts in political philosophy, lies at the center of this course. The course also serves as an introduction to social contract theory, one of the most influential theories in political philosophy and ethics. The right to sovereignty, freedom, justice, and the social compact is among the issues that we are debating. The book “Social Contract” is studied for four reasons: attentive reading, knowledge of the process of reading and analyzing fundamental texts, familiarity with Jean Jacques Rousseau’s general philosophy, and to some extent acquaintance with the notion of the social contract and many theories about it.
