Abstract

“Social Movements and the Logic of Nonviolent Civic Resistance” – Touraj Atabaki

This research explores the potential influence of social movements in directing and reshaping global tensions in the 21st century. Amid growing geopolitical uncertainties, economic disparities, and climate-related crises, grassroots mobilizations have emerged as significant actors in both challenging existing power structures and proposing alternative frameworks for governance and justice.

By analyzing case studies from different regions – including pro-democracy movements, environmental campaigns, and labor uprisings – the study aims to understand how these movements contribute to either the escalation or resolution of international conflicts. The research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from political science, sociology, and international relations, to assess the conditions under which social movements gain transnational traction and impact global narratives. Ultimately, the study highlights the dual role of social movements as both disruptors and mediators in a rapidly changing world order.
