Perspectives in Cultural-Historical Research
Vygotsky’s current reputation rests on the republication of a collection of his articles, books, and manuscripts. It is clear that his family archive contained many other texts, including research ideas, discussions of other scholars’ works, excerpts from books, preliminary outlines for lectures, articles, and books, among other materials. The present volume is the first book devoted to a large number of these previously unpublished writings. Covering an extended period from 1912 to 1934, these texts would fill a substantial number of pages if published in their entirety. Although many of the notes may have been lost over the years—as suggested by the uneven representation of different periods—more than 500 still survive. Some are extremely brief, while others are illegible or have not withstood the passage of time. For this edition, we have selected those that appear to be the most interesting from both personal and scholarly perspectives.
