Thinking about Iran, regardless of our conception of Iran, requires thinking about the region in which that imaginary Iran is located. This region is characterized by its multi-layered sociality and culture. Many people have written about the history of small and large corners of this area. Ibn Khaldun is the pioneer of thinking about the history of its entirety. He is the one who has shown that thinking about history requires thinking about the environment and the way human communities live. His value in expressing the relationship between history and the geographical environment is still unknown. Can Ibn Khaldun be considered a believer in geographical determinism? Reyhaneh Gholami’s research helps us think more carefully about this matter; more carefully about the validity of the close interpretive relationship with the text of Ibn Khaldun’s “Introduction”.
