The Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities (Iran Academia) is delighted to announce the call for abstracts for the third International Conference on Contemporary Iranian Studies (ICCI) 2024, that will take place in Goethe University Frankfurt – Campus Westend on 22 and 23 August 2024. This bilingual and biannual conference follows the second successful ICCI 2022, held at ISS in The Hague.

Frankfurt was chosen as the location for the ICCI 2024 to facilitate easier access for our diverse audience both within and outside the Europe, thereby maximizing the potential for a broad range of scholars to attend and contribute to the conference.

We extend our invitation to all Persian-speaking and English-speaking scholars interested in contemporary Iranian Studies to participate in this conference. We particularly encourage students and alumni of Iran Academia to submit their abstracts. Each submission will undergo an editorial review process and should align with one of the themes mentioned below.

Each theme encompasses various sub-themes, providing a comprehensive framework for the conference’s academic discourse.

Attendance Conditions

  1. To attend this conference, you must first register.
  2. This conference is held on campus (In-Person).
  3. In the following exceptional cases, speakers can participate in the panel online and present their discussion
    1. Retired academics and researchers who are unable to earn travel reimbursement from their institution or research center or those with medical constraints.
    2. The speaker has been unable to obtain an entry visa to the Germany in due time.

Important Dates

  • Abstract Submission Deadline: 1 March 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance Deadline: 15 March 2024
  • Full Conference Paper (Presentation) Submission Deadline: 15 July 2024
  • Conference Dates: 22  and 23 August 2024

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should be original work and must not be under review at any other conference or journalAll submissions will undergo an editorial review by the conference Editorial Board. The language of the conference is English and Persian, and submissions can be in either language.

Please submit your abstract through the conference submission page by the specified deadline. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to submit full conference papers for further review. 

  1. Word Count: The abstract must be between 300 to 500 words. Submissions that exceed or fall short of this range will not be considered.
  2. Clarity and Academic Principles: The abstract should provide a clear understanding of the topic of the presentation and be based on academic principles.
  3. Consistency: The final paper submitted after abstract acceptance should align with the initial abstract submission. Changes in the topic or significant deviations from the original abstract will not be accepted.
  4. Multiple Submissions: If you have two projects or presentations and are unsure which one you will present at the conference, you should submit both abstracts. You will not be able to change your submission topic or abstract after the initial submission.
  5. Panel Suggestions: If you are a group of scholars with a panel suggestion, please submit all the presentations’ abstracts independently for review. Afterward, send an email to ICCI email with your panel suggestion and the names of the speakers. We will review your panel proposal.

We understand that many of you may wish to plan your travel arrangements in advance. Please be aware that the sooner you submit your paper, the sooner you will receive the final notification of acceptanceThis will enable you to better plan your travel to the conference.

Additional Information

Important Note: ICCI 2024 does not facilitate visa acquisition. We only can send an invitation to the ICCI 2024, by request, to the approved speakers. 

  • Your accepted abstract will be published publicly on the conference website under the title of your speech. This title and abstract will be updated based on your final paper title and abstract.
  • The conference will feature live interpretation in Persian and English on both days. 
  • The editorial will publish more information about the conference themes and this call in the coming weeks.
