Sahar Motallebi graduated as a medical doctor from Tehran University and got a Master of Public Health from Lund University. She also studied health system strengthening, disaster recovery, and civil conflict transformation at Swiss tropical institute, Copenhagen University, and Bradford University. Since 2001, she has worked with UN Agencies, research institutes, ministries, and NGOs in Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden. Her field of work has been development and humanitarian programs, at different areas of service provision, program management, policy making, and operational research for health and protection sectors.
