Abstract

In this article, the author explores the migration aspirations of social science students at Tehran University. During the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement, which gained momentum across universities, students chanted “Why travel? Stay and capture.” The author was deeply impressed by this and decided to investigate further. The findings revealed that many students who had planned to immigrate changed their minds or became hesitant after the movement. The reason for this is that the movement resulted in a sudden shift in public perception about the future, which made students see that their future could be achieved in their homeland. The author uses three metaphors to illustrate the students’ perspectives. The first is when students view the campus as a hotel where they stay temporarily to build their resumes before going abroad. The second is when students perceive the campus as their own home. The last metaphor is when the campus becomes like a carnival.
