Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to address the ritual and social status of women in the religious and ethnic minority of Yarsan, especially in its musical field. Since Yarsan music and the repertoire of the Tanbur are intertwined with Yarsan culture and religion and are inseparable, it is necessary to provide a proper introduction to the Yarsan ethno-religious minority and its social conditions.

Also, examining the role and status of women in Yarsan requires understanding religious teachings and cultural practices in Yarsan societies. Tanbur and the ritual musical aspect of Yarsan is the fundamental pillar of this religion and makes Yarsan one of the most unique religions in history that is inseparable from its musical dimension.

In the Yarsan religion, music and art have become a instrument for religious rituals and for this reason are considered part of the sacred and have a high sensitivity. However, in recent years, many taboos have been broken, which has made this religion more known and come out of its closed and hidden state. These taboos were broken both in the field of music, which is considered religious in a way, and in the social field.
