The aim of this article is to analytically and critically examine gender discourse in the latest generation of primary school textbooks in Iran. The educational reforms of the 2010s targeted the establishment of cultural hegemony by the religious government and sought to influence the lifestyle and social identity of the younger generation, particularly regarding gender. The main research question relates to the function of gender ideology in textbooks and its various dimensions. A content analysis of 41 primary school textbooks from the academic year 2022-2023 focuses on the portrayal and status of women, gender roles, and issues such as inequality and gender stereotypes in both the domestic and public spheres.
